Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I am very excited and honored to be your child’s special education teacher. I would like to share a little information about myself. I grew up in the Maize area and attended Maize schools from Kindergarten through high school.
I graduated from Wichita State with a degree in Early Childhood Unified. This degree certifies me in special education from 6 weeks old through 3rd Grade, and regular education from Kindergarten through 6th grade. This helped me to see the importance of students being around their peers and learning through and with them. I am a strong advocate for student inclusion in all settings.
This upcoming school year will start my 6th semester teaching. I spent one semester teaching half day instructional strategies and a half day as an early childhood teacher. I loved the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of students. I was then transferred to Amelia Earhart to my current position. This has been a great learning experience, and I have enjoyed the challenges and rewards of working with so many great colleagues and students. In January of 2015, I won the Kansas Horizon Award. This is an award that recognizes exemplary first- year teachers, who perform in a way that distinguish them as outstanding. It was an incredible experience and honor. The opportunities for continued growth and collaboration with other exemplary educators continues to push me to reach for the seemingly impossible.
In my free time, I love to watch sports, especially KU! I am a diehard football fan and love the atmosphere watching a game live can provide. And there is nothing better than to listen or participate in the rock chalk chant when KU wins a game!
I am looking forward to a fantastic year and getting to know your children. I appreciate your support and hard work as we all continue to grow and learn throughout the school year. Feel free to email or call me at any time.
