K-4 Music Educator
I graduated from Rose Hill High School in '91 and went on to receive my Bachelor's in Music Education from Wichita State University in 1995 and my Master’s in Music Education in 2015 (Go Shox!)
I received my Bachelor's in Music Education from Wichita State University as well as my Master’s in Music Educaiton. I am a trained PLTW teacher, Modern Band teacher as well as Certified in all three levels of Kodaly. I plan to also become certified in World Music Drumming and Orff.
I am excited to start my 9th year as the Music Teacher at Amelia Earhart Elementary, though I have had 2 students in the district for many years. Every day I get to teach K-4 General Music, which includes both instrumental and vocal music. So down the hall you can hear many different things going on in our music room.....from recorders to bucket drums, boomwhackers to xylophones, drums to tambourines. We also do a great deal of moving to music so you are likely to find us dancing with ribbon sticks, keeping the beat with paper plates or showing the musical form with a parachute. I believe that music should be FUN, EXCITING and lead to a LIFE LONG LOVE OF MUSIC.
Previously I have taught in both the Wichita and the Renwick Districts at both the Middle School and Elementary School levels. I have immensely enjoyed watching former students go on to include music in their life, both in performance and in the education fields.....one former student even went on to perform on American Idol in 2011. I'm so proud of each and every one of them. For 13 years I decided to stay home with my family, and for 10 of those years I was a kids pastor at an area church. In everything I do, teaching is always at the heart of it. I look forward to teaching your child(ren) this year, and hope to take them on an exciting musical journey that will go past just the mechanics of music and lead them into a life long love of music.
I have been married 26 years to the infamous Mr. Mann at Challenger Intermediate (5th Grade Science) and we have two boys, Levi (GHS alumn) and Caleb (Jr. at GHS). We are currently pet free after saying goodbye to our long-time best friends, Shadow (the cat) and Darby (the dog).
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy hanging out with my family both indoors and outdoors. I love to travel.....especially road trips! There is so much to see across this great country! So much to learn and so many people to learn from! National Parks are our favorite places, but anytime we can get in a car and just drive is a very special time for us! Mr. Mann on the other hand would rather just fly.........
