First grade students attended an Hour of Code event at Challenger Intermediate School. This event was the first of its kind for Amelia Earhart and Challenger. Each first grader paired with a fifth grade "Master Coder". The 5th graders lead our first graders through four stations: Rosie's Runtime, Tangrams, the code.org website, and driving robots the 5th graders engineered. Mrs. Phillips, 1st grade EAR teacher, and Doug Mann, 5th grade PLTW Challenger, collaborated to bring this idea to life. Mrs. Phillips wanted to connect the reading curriculum topic of technology to a hands-on experience for students. The first graders were excited for this opportunity and have made beginning connections with technology, fellow 5th graders in their school district, and a future building they will attend.
