Kids holding up a gumball

A new classroom initiative called Secret Scientists is keeping students on their toes each week in our PLTW classroom.

Here’s how it works: every Monday, Mrs. Johnson quietly select's two Mystery Students. Throughout the week, those students are observed to see if they are listening carefully, following directions, and living up to the classroom’s social contract.

The catch? No one knows who the Mystery Students are. That means every student works a little harder—just in case it’s them.

On Friday, the Mystery Students’ names are revealed—if they’ve been successful all week. Those chosen earn the title of Secret Scientist along with a special prize: a quarter for the gumball machine, which dispenses tiny duck-shaped Sweet Tart candies.

This engaging activity encourages students to be their best every day, while adding a little mystery and fun to the week. Here are a few photos of our Scientists so far!
